Brisbane man's simple purchase reveals $2.7m lotto win

A Brisbane man who went into a shop to buy an ink refill for his pen left a multi-millionaire after he decided to check his Gold Lotto $30 Million Megadraw ticket.

The Indooroopilly man is now almost $3 million richer thanks to his ticket being one of 11 division one winning entries.

He made his first big decision on the spot, quitting his job and heading into early retirement.

"I just rocked into the newsagency to buy a pen refill and thought I'd better check my ticket from the weekend's draw," said the winner, who wished to remain anonymous.

"A message appeared on the terminal saying the prize was too big to pay out."

He looked at the shopkeeper, who told him: "You're the division one winner we've been looking for."

After checking the numbers, the man said he almost dropped to the floor in shock.

"This is a dream come true.

"I keep telling everyone if I win the lottery I am resigning immediately … that's the first thing I am going to do."

The Indooroopilly man was one of the five Queensland division one winners from the weekend's $30 Million Megadraw, each taking home $2,727,000.

They were joined by three winners from New South Wales, two from South Australia and one from Western Australia.
