Independent study for vets info laws

Veterans Affairs Minister Dan Tehan has ordered an independent study into what impact controversial personal information disclosure laws will have on the privacy of former soldiers.

The legislation, which has cleared the lower house and is before the Senate, would allow the government to release the personal information of veterans so that it can correct public statements.

Veterans have expressed concern the changes could mentally crush vulnerable former soldiers.

Mr Tehan on Wednesday announced an independent privacy impact assessment will be carried out by the Australian Government Solicitor and called for public feedback.
