Justice Minister Michael Keenan is about to release the latest snapshot of Australia's illicit drugs market in Melbourne.

This report, prepared annually by the Australian Crime Commission (ACC) and released on Tuesday, is the most authoritative national expose of illegal drugs.

It provides information on use of drugs such as heroin, cocaine, amphetamines and cannabis, trends in drug use, legislative and other initiatives and statistics.

"The report is a key tool in the fight against illicit drug use, by providing government, law enforcement and relevant stakeholders with a national picture of the illicit drug market," the ACC said in a statement.

As well as Mr Keenan, ACC chief executive Chris Dawson and Australian Federal Police commissioner Tony Negus will speak at the launch function.
