Idiotic, Iran the Middle East saviour: MP

A Labor MP has launched a stinging attack on the federal government over Australia's restored diplomatic relations with Iran.

Michael Danby says parliament needs to debate a pro-Iranian shift in Middle East affairs, especially in strife-torn Syria.

"Since the one-sided deal with Iran, the foreign minister has re-imagined Iran as the region's saviour - this is idiotic," he told parliament on Monday.
