Two police officers suspended in Ballarat over 'excessive force'

A Victorian police station is under investigation over allegations officers have used excessive force, including against a vulnerable person in custody.

Two senior constables have been suspended without pay pending the outcome of public hearings by the Independent Broad-based Anti-corruption Commission into accusations of serious misconduct at Ballarat station.

The hearings begin in Melbourne next Wednesday in the County Court of Victoria.

They will focus on alleged excessive use of force by officers and the way Victoria Police responds to such allegations.

Victoria Police's professional standards command will also investigate, and the force says it will support IBAC's investigation.
