Hunter town donates Anzac rosemary

About 20,000 rosemary sprigs used in Sydney's Anzac commemorations will be donated by a town in the Hunter.

The tradition was started by herb farmer John Penninger about 20 years ago and now Merriwa residents, the RSL and the local fire brigade are also giving homegrown rosemary to Legacy.

"I don't have much cash in this world but I do have in kind," Mr Penninger told the ABC.

Merriwa sprigs will make up about 80 per cent of the rosemary in the 2014 celebrations.

"I want to ensure that the supply of rosemary goes on as it has for the past 20, for the next 20, for the next 40 years," Mr Penninger said.
