Hundreds gather for human tower competition in Spain
Last weekend saw hundreds of people competing in the 29th Human Tower Competition in Tarragona, Spain.
The competition sees groups stand together to form towering pillars of people.
Members of "Castellers de Vilafranca" prepare to form a "Castell" or human tower.
Though it might look random, every member of the group has a specific position and function within the tower.
The strongest must bear the weight of the entire tower, while the lighter ones climb the human ladder.
The foundations are formed by a wide ring of people that help to stabilise the tower and distribute the weight more evenly.
It's hard work, and the tradition is not without risk.
