Human remains found in Canberra river

Human remains have been found in a Canberra river, triggering a police call for information.

The unidentified remains were found on Sunday afternoon, with police confirming the discovery on Monday.

The body was found by a member of the public in the Murrumbidgee River, south of Kambah Pools, a popular swimming spot in the ACT.

"Police are investigating the circumstances of the incident," police said in a statement.

The gender of the body had not been determined, a police spokesman said.

At least four bodies have been found in various sections of the river since the start of the year.

In January police found the body of a 20-year-old man who went missing after going swimming at Oura Beach.

In August a Hay man's body was found, and in September the body of a missing 42-year old Balranald man was found a week after his disappearance.
