Human remains found at Vic beach

Human remains have been found in an area where a swimmer went missing near Victoria's Cape Otway.

The swimmer, a 34-year-old Ivanhoe man, went missing at Station Beach after entering the surf with a friend about 3pm on Sunday.

Police called off a search of the area on Monday afternoon after finding what are believed to be human remains.

The remains are yet to be formally identified.

The tragedy unfolded after both men had been caught in a rip, with one managing to swim to shore while the other was swept further off shore in heavy surf.
