Housewives using ice to be super-mum: Nash

Housewives are using the illicit drug ice to become "super-mums", says a federal government minister.

Assistant Health Minister Fiona Nash has been travelling around the country, gauging the thoughts of communities about what should be included in a new national ice strategy.

"Ice does not discriminate - it is old people, young people, wealthy people, people not well off," Senator Nash told the Senate on Wednesday.

"They are tradesmen ... housewives taking risks to be super-mum."

The government says the number of Australians treated for ice abuse more than doubled between 2010 to 2013 and about 200,000 Australians used the drug in the past year.
