Man, 23, charged over house fire which killed a man in south west Sydney

A man has been charged after the body of a 22-year-old man was found in a burned-out house in south-west Sydney nearly three months ago.

The blaze broke out in Crank Place in Elderslie at 11.40pm on June 1.

Emergency crews had to rescue six people who were in the house when the fire started.

The group managed to escape and were treated for smoke inhalation by NSW Paramedics.

Two firefighters were also treated for smoke inhalation and one also suffered a fractured hand.

Once the fire was extinguished, the man's body was found inside.

Neighbours hearing banging and a woman screaming "get out" from the intense blaze.

A 23-year-old man attended Narellan Police Station yesterday and was arrested.

He was charged with destroying or damaging property with intent to endanger life, destroying property in company by using fire, aggravated break and enter - commit serious indictable offence in company, destroying or damaging property in company and being armed with intent to commit an indictable offence.

He was refused bail and will appear at Campbelltown Local Court today.
