Family picks through rubble of 'suspicious' house fire

The devastated residents of an Adelaide home that was destroyed in a suspicious fire have picked through the rubble to try and recover some of their possessions.

Nikki and Valentino were visiting their grandchildren when their Sellicks Beach home went up in flames last night.

Christmas presents they had purchased for their grandchildren were destroyed in the blaze.

Valentino had owned the home for 25 years, and the fire destroyed many sentimental possessions belonging to his parents.

Emergency services were called to the home just after 1am today and found huge flames coming from the property.

It took dozens of firefighters more than two hours to get the blaze under control, with 10m flames spewing from the home.

The fire caused a live power line to fall across the front of the property, which made it dangerous for crews.

The crews had to cut through a fence to reach the burning house.

Firefighters said it was the biggest blaze in Sellicks Beach in the past 18 months.

Police are treating the cause of the fire as suspicious.
