Thousands out of pocket in online hotel booking bungle

A Perth couple is hundreds of dollars out of pocket after their hotel booking was cancelled without notice.

Dave and Helen Reid are among thousands of holidaymakers caught up in the global travel nightmare involving Hotel Quickly.

The Rockingham couple paid $750 for a three-night stay in Adelaide in February.

But two days ago, they received an email from the company saying their booking had been canceled.

They were able to make a new reservation directly through the hotel, but Hotel Quickly says it can't give a refund only a credit voucher.

Many other Christmas travellers have vented their anger online - claiming they've been left stranded because of last-minute cancellations.

The company's website was no longer accepting bookings, sparking speculation it could be in financial trouble.

Consumer Protection says it’s received four complaints so far, and anyone who paid for their booking with a credit card should lodge a transaction dispute with their bank.
