Former rugby league player John Hopoate has come to the aid of a couple who crashed their car while on their way to jail.
The controversial former footballer was driving to the same jail to visit his son Jamil yesterday when he came across the stricken pair.
Jamil was jailed for drunken assault last year after bashing a man outside the Ivanhoe Hotel in Sydney’s northern beaches.
The 41-year-old dad posted a photo to Facebook showing the couple next to their overturned car.
"On my way to visit my son in gaol today. I picked up this very lucky couple who survived this crash," Hopoate wrote in the post.
"I checked if they were ok and all they said was can you please take us to the gaol to visit our (son) cause we have food for him.
"What GREAT parents, even thou they were in trouble all they could think about was getting food for their son in Gaol."
Hopoate's other son, Will Hopoate, currently plays for the Parramatta Eels.
