Hoons turn street into makeshift burnout pad

A Christmas party hosted by smash repair business has turned a Melbourne street into a burnout pad with tyremarks stretching 200m along the road.

Police were called to Butch Avenue at 5pm Saturday after reports of people in cars and motorbikes revving their engines and doing burnouts.

The event was organised by Epping Smash Repairs, a business which moved into the street about 18 months ago.

When officers arrived to disperse the crowd, they were pushed backed by dozens of aggressive offenders.

Constable Imogen Ashworth of Victoria Police told 9NEWS the car enthusiasts were angry about police presence at the party.

"They were screaming abuse and throwing items at the police vehicle and also spitting at the car," she said.

"Due to operational safety reasons we had to retreat and gain more resources."

The smash repair shop is owned by Ali Nash, who refused to answer questions about the incident.

The front of the shop now looks more like a junk yard, with busted tyres littering the area.

"It's all evidence of a night of debauchery," Constable Ashworth said.
