Homelessness pact news on budget night: PM

Prime Minister Tony Abbott says the federal government won't reveal whether it will commit to continuing homelessness funding before the budget is handed down.

The National Partnership Agreement on Homelessness between the Commonwealth and states and territories expires on June 30, leaving the social services sector seeking assurances that funding will be ongoing.

West Australian Child Protection Minister Helen Morton, opposition transport spokesman Anthony Albanese and Greens leader Christine Milne have all called for certainty.

Mr Albanese said it should come before the re-run WA Senate election on April 5.

But on Tuesday, Mr Abbott said nothing would be revealed until the federal budget in May.

"The answer will be provided on budget night," he told 6IX radio in Perth.

"We aren't going to let Western Australia down."

"If I start saying a definite yes on all of these things, basically I've given away the whole budget," Mr Abbott told Fairfax radio.

"There is no reason to be agitated on this."
