Big screen televisions and cinema-quality sound used to cost the Earth.

But home theatres have never been more affordable.

Tech expert Trevor Long has chosen three different TV's and sound bars at three different prices.

The products were then sent over to the Jones's home to test drive, transforming three rooms into their very own cinemas.

They didn’t know which brands they were testing or how much the items cost.

At Harvey Norman, Trevor picked the LG TV, which costs $2295.

“In terms of sitting in the lounge room, it looks fantastic,” he said.

“The OLED technology gives you a deeper black and a better contrast between the colours and that, I think, does make in difference when you're watching the TV.”

A Current Affair reporter Lauren Golman asked: “Is this a cheaper version of a very expensive TV?

“LG's wallpaper TV is $30,000 - this is the exact same technology, just in a different stand,” he replied.

His next choice, a Samsung TV, is slightly less expensive at $1995.

“This is Samsung's QLED technology - their best technology, their best picture quality, but it's also really thin and not a bad price for a 55-inch TV,” he said.

“$2000 for a 55-inch, almost top of the line TV, is not a bad price when you walk into the store.

“I think the family will like the user interface. When you launch Stan and are trying to change channels and things, it's actually a really nice, easy to use TV.

Coming in cheapest was a TV from Hisense at $995.

“The family might notice they're looking at a different screen because the menu is not as intuitive, it's not the same user interface,” Trevor said.

“When they get engrossed in a movie or a TV show, I don't think they're going to notice too much about the quality of this TV.”

But it wouldn't be a home theatre without surround sound.

Trevor has paired a Samsung soundbar with the Samsung TV, a LG soundbar with the LG TV, and a JBL soundbar for the Hiscence.
