Home invaders on the run after shooting

Police are hunting two armed suspects following a violent home invasion and shooting in Adelaide's north.

Two men, armed with a gun and a machete, smashed a glass door to get inside a property on Robert Crescent at Smithfield Plains about 3.30am.

The five occupants were threatened by the intruders, before one of the residents was shot at twice as the invaders ran out the front door.

Fortunately, he wasn't hurt.

Police and investigators have been using metal detectors to search for evidence, following the frightening early morning attack.

Neighbour Emma Wilton told 9News she heard the commotion.

"It was around 3.30am we heard some loud bangs, I thought they were fireworks, and then we heard some guys yelling at each other as they went past our house but we weren't going out to check," Ms Wilton said.

Police believe the suspects escaped in a car that was parked nearby.

Officers have spent the day door-knocking nearby residents and searching for CCTV of the incident.

Investigators say it isn't a random attack and are urging anyone who has information to contact crime stoppers

Neighbour Sidney Dashwood said he no longer felt safe living in the area.

"It's getting frightening ... whatever they've done is what they've gotta pay for," Mr Dashwood said.
