Material seized in a raid by the Australian Federal Police on a federal department relating to leaked emails in the au pair saga will be scrutinised by a parliamentary inquiry.

Labor successfully referred the matter to the a Senate committee, which will look into material handed to the Clerk of the Senate after the opposition claimed parliamentary privilege over it.

Home Affairs Minister Peter Dutton has denied triggering a raid on his own federal department, which was searched on Thursday after the AFP agreed to investigate the leak on August 30.
