Hockey satisfied with Asian bank structure

Treasurer Joe Hockey is satisfied with the structure of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank, despite concerns that have kept the US and Japan from joining at its conception.

Mr Hockey, who signed Australia up to the bank in Beijing on Monday, said through "good faith" negotiations it insured the AIIB has the best corporate governance principals of any major multilateral bank.

"The United states and Japan can come in at a later stage and I have been given reassurances that they would be welcome into AIIB," Mr Hockey told Bloomberg television in Hong Kong on Tuesday.
