Hockey faces fresh campaign over aid cuts

`Tis the season for giving but Joe Hockey's likely to receive an unwelcome Christmas gift at his North Sydney electoral office.

Charity campaigners are hoping to raise $3,500 so they can plonk a mobile billboard directly outside Mr Hockey's office in Mount St North Sydney, urging him not to make further cuts to the aid program.

There's speculation the treasurer could slash aid funding for a third time this year when he releases the federal government's budget update later this month.

ActionAid Australia and Make Poverty History on Tuesday launched a campaign to raise money for the billboard, which they will drive around Mr Hockey's electorate trying to make their point.

"We're concerned the government hasn't yet got the message so we're going to take the message direct to the treasurer," Make Poverty History executive director Tony Milne said in a statement.

The foreign aid program took a $7.6 billion hit in the federal budget in May, the largest single source of savings.
