Man arrested following overnight stand-off with police in Hobart

Police have arrested a man following an overnight stand-off in Hobart.

Shots were fired during the incident which started when police were called to reports of a dog attack in Maple Avenue, Moonah yesterday afternoon.

The 47-year-old man who holed himself up in the house throughout the night was arrested early this morning, a police statement said.

"A man armed with a firearm barricaded himself in his residence," the statement read.

"Police successfully negotiated a peaceful resolution to the incident."

Neighbouring homes had been evacuated and Maple Avenue was closed, as police tried to end the stand-off.
