Fire destroys Victorian pub on night of owner's birthday
A hotel in Victoria's Yarra Valley, believed to be 100 years old, has been destroyed by fire on the same night of owner Doug Fraser's birthday.
Fire broke out at the Woori Yallock Hotel on the Old Warburton Hwy around 3am this morning and required more than 50 firefighters to bring it under control.
"When we got here the building was fully involved with flames end to end," Hillcrest CFA spokeswoman Fiona Burns said.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, however initial investigations suggests the fire began near the kitchen.
The Woori Yallock Hotel has only recently been renovated, which locals say it was built in the 1900s.
Hotel management released a statement on their Facebook page, thanking the community for their messages of support.
"Your kind words and the support offered are greatly appreciated," it said.
"We will be rebuilding and we are sure with all of the community support we will be up and running again in no time."
Nobody was injured in the blaze.
