A fire that destroyed one of Victoria's oldest hotels was deliberately lit, police believe.

The fire gutted the heritage-listed Port Albert Hotel at Port Albert, near Yarram in Victoria's southeast, shortly after it closed on Monday, February 17.

The hotel was first licensed in 1842.

Detectives will set up an information caravan at the site from 3pm to 6pm on Monday, hoping to speak to anyone who saw suspicious activity at the time.
