Hiker lost in bushland as Queensland heats up

A search is underway for a Queensland hiker lost in bushland south-west of Brisbane.

The man called police around 12.30pm today and reported himself lost while hiking at Mount Barney.  

He told police he was on his way down the south east ridge of the southern peak of the mountain when he became lost.

The hiker, who is in his 40s, told police he had no water and his phone was low on battery.

The man’s phone ran out of battery before police could obtain any more information.

There are concerns for his welfare due to the extreme heat affecting the state.

SES volunteers and aerial resources have been called to help with the search.
