High school students hospitalised after feeling dizzy in science lab

Six students have been hospitalised for chemical exposure after they experienced dizziness in a science lab at a Sydney inner west high school today.

Emergency services were call to Concord High School on Stanley St at 10.15am following reports seven Year 8 students were experiencing dizziness and minor respiratory difficulties.

The experiment, which was performed by Year 12 students in another classroom, was being conducted in a fume cabinet, using drops of Bromine water mixed with Hexane and Hexine.

The students completed the experiment with no issues and the fume cabinet was then placed in another classroom. 

The next class arrived in the classroom where seven 12-year-old students complained of feeling lightheaded and dizzy. 

Six NSW Ambulance units responded to the incident and assessed the students while firefighters worked to ventilate the classroom and make the situation safe.

Six of the seven students have since been hospitalised.
