CCTV shows moment 'drunk, texting' driver hits visiting family

A woman has been charged after allegedly texting on her mobile phone while drink-driving and hitting a group of pedestrians in Sydney's north-west overnight. 

A four-year-old girl and her 55-year-old aunt were left fighting for their lives, while two other family members sustained minor injuries, after being struck on Hezlett Road in Kellyville about 9pm. 

The family of four are from Hong Kong and were on holiday in Australia when they were hit.

CCTV shows they were all on the footpath when the vehicle turned the corner and hit them.

The young child was taken to Westmead Children's Hospital with head and internal injuries. She remains in a critical condition.

The girl's aunt suffered internal and spinal injuries. She was transferred to the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, also in a critical condition.

Her mother, 44, was also taken to Westmead Hospital with injuries to her face, arm and pelvis.

Her father was treated at Westmead Hospital for non-life threatening injuries to his head.

Kellyville woman Lisa Motram, the driver of the vehicle, was taken to Westmead Hospital for mandatory testing.

The 50-year-old returned a blood alcohol reading of 0.113.

She has been charged with dangerous driving, causing grievous bodily harm, using a mobile phone while driving, and drink driving with a mid-range PCA.

Motram was granted conditional bail and will appear in Parramatta Local Court on October 10. 

Police are attempting to contact the family's relatives via the consulate.
