The pair were rushed to hospital after having their throats slashed in the alleged attack in the coastal Queensland town after 9am.
The 38-year-old alleged attacker from Lismore in New South Wales, who is known to the pair, was charged with two counts of attempted murder in hospital yesterday evening.
The pair have undergone emergency surgery and remain in Hervey Bay Hospital.
Neighbours of the woman and her 50-year-old son say the family were known to keep to themselves.
“They’ve recently moved in in the last two years,” one resident said.
