Heavy wind and rain batter Sydney Airport throughout the night

Sydney Airport has shared a video showing the abominable conditions on the tarmac overnight as bad weather continues to ground planes and divert flights in and out of the city.

The short video posted to the airport's Facebook page shows a plane sitting out in the storm at the airport during curfew as a heavy rain bombards it on all sides.

Winds push the rains sideways and around the plane's fuselage, showing the bleak and torrential conditions that beset the city throughout the night.

As Sydney awoke to more blistering wind and rain, the airport announced that some flights would be delayed while others would be diverted.

Airport management had to correct rumours suggesting the airport had been closed by the ongoing storm, stating on Twitter: "Sydney Airport is not closed. We have additional resources in place to minimise disruption. Please check with you airline for flight info."

Domestic flights are experiencing delays of up to 90 minutes, the airport confirmed on Twitter earlier today.

International travellers should anticipate delays of 60 minutes and passengers are advised to contact their airline for specific information regarding their flight.

Interstate travellers may also experience knock-on effects, particularly with domestic flights.

There were also numerous disruptions to train services around the city caused by flooding and downed trees and passengers heading to the airport are being urged to allow for extra travel time.
