Heavy rain and 90km/h winds predicted as severe thunderstorms sweep across South Australia

A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued across parts of South Australia, with wind gusts expected to top 90km/h.

People in the Adelaide Metropolitan, Mount Lofty Ranges, Yorke Peninsula, Flinders, Mid North, Riverland, Murraylands, Upper South East, Lower South East, North East Pastoral and parts of the Eastern Eyre Peninsula and Kangaroo Island districts are set to be affected, the Bureau of Meteorology said.

Heavy rainfall and flash flooding over the next few hours are expcted in Adelaide, Port Augusta, Maitland, Renmark, Robe, Leigh Creek and Moomba.

Kingscote has already received 25mm of rain in half an hour.

The State Emergency Service advises that people should:

Secure or put away loose items around your property.

Move cars under cover or away from trees.

Keep clear of fallen power lines.

Don't drive, ride or walk through flood water.

Keep clear of creeks and storm drains.

Stay indoors, away from windows, while storms are nearby.
