Heavily armed guards to protect police

Police are set to receive greater protection from terrorists, with a squad of security specialists and building upgrades tipped to be announced in the federal budget.

The proposed $150 million security spend would provide greater protection to key police stations around the country, the Daily Telegraph reports.

"Law enforcement agencies have become targets and their facilities and people need to be protected," Justice Minister Michael Keenan said.
