Which Australian city works hardest? New research names top dog
Most Australians would pride themselves on being hard workers - but now the numbers are out to prove if that's true.
Research from Reckon scored all of Australia's capital cities on employment rate, weekly working hours, productivity, multiple job-holders, potential workers, commute, and unpaid domestic work to come up with a score out of 100 and find out where the hardest workers in the country really reside.
Continue through the gallery to find the answer.
8. Adelaide
Adelaide had a final score of 24.63.
The researchers found that hard work scores increased in proportion with the amount of tertiary education in any given region, as well as with median income.
7. Hobart
The Tasmanian capital scored 29.92.
Researchers did not find, however, that differences in median age between regions correlated to any fluctuations in hard work.
6. Brisbane
Brisbane pushed the needle a bit higher, scoring 45.35.
The highest overall hard work scores went to science workers, infrastructure workers, corporate workers, and agriculture workers.
5. Melbourne
Melbourne scored 50.24.
However, it had the highest score for multiple job holders, with 57.
4. Canberra
The centre of government did not, surprisingly, top the list, but scored a respectable 53.32.
3. Sydney
Sydney came in third with 53.39.
It scored a total of 100 for its commute, however.
2. Perth
Perth scored 62.53 to put them in second place, which leaves...
1. Darwin
... Darwin as home to Australia's hardest workers, with a score of 65.99.
It has the highest working hours score as well, with 86 - compared to eighth-placed Adelaide's seven in the same category.
