PM to blame for Pauline Hanson: Labor

Labor is blaming Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull for Pauline Hanson's very likely return to federal politics.

And Labor MP Terri Butler says if that happens, the prime minister owes the Australian public an apology.

Malcolm Turnbull might be happy backing a racist and bigot into the Senate, she told reporters in south Brisbane on Tuesday.

But the south side (of Brisbane) is no place for racism.

Ms Hanson's One Nation Party will hold its election launch in Ms Butler's Griffith electorate in south Brisbane this week.

The former MP describes herself on her website as one of Australia's most well known politicians and is quietly confident of picking up a Senate seat in the July 2 double dissolution election.

The double dissolution halves the quota of votes needed to grab a spot in the upper house.

Coupled with the government's recently passed Senate voting changes which scrap group voting tickets, Mr Turnbull has created a recipe for Ms Hanson's re-election, Ms Butler said.

Malcolm Turnbull, you're now reaping the consequences of the Senate changes, she said.

Ms Butler believes it's very likely that Ms Hanson will be elected in the last Queensland Senate spot.

The Queenslander was a member of the House of Representatives from 1996-98 and has been widely branded a racist, with One Nation standing against multiculturalism.

The prime minister on Tuesday said Ms Hanson would not be a welcome presence in politics.
