Victor Abiu Imara Mareko, 19, is behind bars, accused of stalking a woman and trying to get into her house, after targeting another group of girls in Cairns North on Friday.

The woman was walking in a Cairns street about 8.45pm when she allegedly saw the man standing in a phone booth wearing only his underwear.

Senior Constable Heidi Marek says the woman became aware the man was following her and "panicked", running home and slamming her door as the man came up the stairs of her unit.

It will be alleged the Manoora man attempted to gain entry to the woman's home and fled after being told police had been contacted.

He was found a short time later and taken into custody.

It will be further alleged that earlier the man had "forced" his way into a car containing a number of females parked outside of a Cairns convenience store.

"As a result they've yelled and screamed at him and pushed him out of the car," Senior Constable Heidi Marek said.

"Upon hearing the commotion a nearby security guard at a bottle shop came out to assist and saw the man being pushed out of the car.

"He's then attempted to gain entry into the liquor store."

When refused, police will allege the man threatened to fight the guard, spitting several times at him, damaging a nearby bike and leaving.

Mr Mareko has been charged with stalking, assault, public nuisance and possession of a dangerous drug.

His case has been adjourned until May 11.
