'I thought I was dead': Father narrowly avoids bullet in bungled robbery

A gunman is on the run in Adelaide’s northern suburbs and there are fears he will strike again after a bungled Elizabeth South street robbery.

David Langford was shot at while on his way home from the Rose and Crown Hotel early Friday morning.

Speaking exclusively to 9NEWS, he says he took a shortcut through a park at the corner of Goodman Road and Penfold Road when a man with a gun emerged from behind a bush.

“This bloke come out with a sawn-off shotgun and said 'give us everything you got, give us everything you got',” Mr Langford said.

The father-of-eight thought the weapon was fake until a shot was fired and the bullet narrowly missed him.

He says the force of the weapon caused the gunman to fall onto the ground.

“He clocked it back and just let one off. As he let one off he fell over, tripped over... I thought I was dead at first, I thought he's shot me... But someone was on my side that night.”

The offender was last seen running towards the Phillip Highway.

Police found the weapon at the scene shortly after and a major manhunt was launched.

He has been described as Caucasian, 178cm tall and wearing a dark hoodie with a skeleton or skull face and dark pants.

“I hope the police find him very quick because he's very dangerous and he will do it to someone else,” Mr Langford said.
