House sprayed with bullets in 'targeted' drive-by shooting as police investigate ongoing gangland war

A house has been sprayed with bullets and a car set alight on a nearby street in Sydney's west in what is thought to be the latest attack in an ongoing gangland war.

About 11.20pm yesterday, police were called to the intersection of Guildford Road and Robertson Street after reports shots had been fired.

Casings and bullet holes were found in the front of a nearby house. People were inside the home at the time but no one was injured.

"Six adults were in the premises at the time... some of these occupants are known to police," Detective Superintendent Paul Devaney, Cumberland Police Area Commander, said today.

"This is a targeted attack."

A short time later a car was found alight on Bennett Road in South Granville.

Crime scenes were established at both locations and police believe they are linked.

Investigations are also underway into whether these latest incidents are linked to an ongoing gangland war between the Hamzy and Alameddine crime networks.

Detective Superintendent Devaney confirmed the house targeted is known to police, as are some of the intended victims, but they are not cooperating with police.

"Those people are extremely lucky they weren't seriously injured or killed," he said.

Bilal Mafhoud, 20, was sitting on the front verandah last night when the drive-by shooting took place.

He was friends with Alameddine associate Shady Kanj, who was shot and killed in Guildford in August.

Recently murdered teenager Salim Hamze was a suspect in that attack.

Today police also searched a home across the road from where the latest shooting took place to seize CCTV.
