Greyhound trainer Tom Noble's sentence adjourned after guilty plea

Prominent former Queensland greyhound trainer Tom Noble will be sentenced next week over his role in the live-baiting scandal, after he pleaded guilty to 15 animal cruelty charges.

Mr Noble, 69, was due to be sentenced today but the judge reserved his decision until next Tuesday.

The prosecution has made a submission arguing that Noble should serve at least two years in prison.

His own lawyers argued that he had been vilified by the media and the greyhound industry, to which he had devoted 50 years of life. Noble suffered depression due to the shunning, they said.

Noble was charged last year, after the ABC's 4Corners program aired secretly filmed footage showing live-baiting involving a possum and a piglet allegedly taking place at his Lockyer Valley property.

In February last year, Noble said "going by the videos" live-baiting had occurred at his property.

"It looks really bad, you know, you feel a bit ashamed of it when you see it," he said.

Noble also said the greyhounds were muzzled and therefore could not bite the animals used as bait.

He had trained greyhounds since he was 14, and was among five top Queensland greyhound trainers stripped of their licences to train and race dogs and given life bans in the wake of the scandal.
