WHERE STATES AND TERRITORIES STAND ON GREYHOUND RACING

NSW:

- Will ban greyhound racing from July next year. The industry will take legal action in a bid to overturn the decision.

- Will ban racing and says there's no future for the industry in the ACT but it's not yet clear when the ban will take effect. The industry has vowed to fight the decision.

VICTORIA:

- Won't ban racing but says the industry is on notice; Greyhound Racing Victoria admits it has a credibility problem but is focused on animal welfare and weeding out 'ratbag' operators.

QUEENSLAND:

- Won't ban racing but says the industry is on its final warning and is subject to very strict monitoring.

SOUTH AUSTRALIA:

- Won't ban racing, saying there's there's no evidence the state's industry has the same problems as those interstate.

- Won't ban racing but is awaiting a parliamentary report on the industry, due later this year.

WESTERN AUSTRALIA:

- Won't ban racing but has promised very strong action against anyone involved in live baiting or other cruel conduct.

- Won't ban racing, saying the territory's industry isn't plagued by the "shonky business" seen elsewhere but warns any such evidence could spark a ban in the future.
