Melbourne murderer boasted about baking skills while on the run

One of Melbourne's most sadistic child rapists and murderers bragged about his baking skills and his interest in growing roses in a video filmed before his arrest for the murder of six-year-old Kylie Maybury.

The chilling video shows Gregory Keith Davies before his arrest talking about his life, including how he opened his home to visitors as a bed and breakfast.

"I made up my favourite recipe of lemonade scones," he said in the never-before-seen video aired by Channel 7,  bragging about baking the recipe for friends.

Davies raped and murdered Kylie Maybury on November 6, 1984.

The six-year-old had been sent to a convenience store to buy a bag of sugar and was last seen walking home with sugar in hand. Her body was found in the gutter of a nearby street that night.

Davies was not caught until more than 30 years after death. In May this year he pleaded guilty to her murder.

During his time on the run, Davies used his middle name to avoid capture, taking up playing country music and moving to Waterford Park, about an hour north of Melbourne, before he was finally arrested.
