Former NRL superstar Greg Inglis has opened up on his shock return to rugby league.

Twelve months after calling time on his stellar NRL career, Inglis stunned the rugby league world by signing a one-year deal with English Super League side Warrington.

"I've got that edge and the mentality of getting back into it," Inglis told 9News Sydney NRL reporter Danny Weidler.

The 33-year-old admits he faces an uphill task to get back to the playing at the level he once did, but is adamant that he will put in the work.

"If there's one thing I like doing, it's proving people wrong," he said.

"If they think I don't have it, well then I'm just going to show them that I'm willing to go over there and work hard and to prove to myself that I can still play at that high level.

"It's something that I'm looking forward to, being that player again, but I don't expect anything to happen in the blink of an eye.

"I've been out of the game for two years and it's going to take a while, but the beauty of it is that I have time to refresh my body."
