Greens want new environmental watchdog

The Greens say Australia needs a new environmental watchdog to ensure the survival of iconic species, including the koala.

Greens Senator Larissa Waters will outline her party's plan for a National Environment Protection Authority, and new environmental protection laws, in Brisbane on Tuesday.

Senator Waters says the koala is facing imminent extinction and a new independent watchdog is crucial to stop further loss of the native species.
