Greens walking into Senate voting trap

The Greens have been warned they are walking into a government trap by supporting changes to the way Australians vote for the Senate.

Liberal Democrats senator David Leyonhjelm says government legislation restoring the building industry watchdog, tougher governance rules for trade unions and abolition of the Clean Energy Finance Corporation - all of which the Greens oppose - could clear parliament after a double-dissolution election.

"What the Greens are doing is facilitating the government to pass legislation they are vehemently opposed to," he told reporters in Canberra on Tuesday.

Labor senator Sam Dastyari accused the Greens of selling out the CEFC, posting a listing on the Gumtree website seeking a new friend for the corporation.

"They enjoy the outdoors, sunny days, a steady breeze and the ebb and flow of the tides," he told reporters.

"Can you turn the turbine of my friend's heart, can you shine a light on their solar cells?"
