Greens seek support from non-members

The Australian Greens want to harness the voting power of their non-party faithful.

Greens leader Christine Milne says the minor party is embarking on a constitutional review to consider ways to modernise.

Primarily, it is looking at ways of campaigning in the internet age and tapping into the votes of non-member supporters.

The party has learnt from Greens Senator Scott Ludlam's success at the West Australian Senate re-poll, where it gained a five per cent swing with the help of volunteers unaffiliated with the party, and a strong social media campaign.

"We've got a big support base out there, (we're asking) how do we get them more engaged with the party even if they don't want to become members," Senator Milne told AAP on Sunday.

The review will go to the Greens national conference later this year.
