Greens move to stop cashless welfare card

The Greens have moved to stop trials of the cashless welfare debit card in the South Australian town of Ceduna.

The Greens are urging Labor to support its disallowance motion lodged in the Senate on Wednesday, which would stop the trial from going ahead in March.

"This is a measure that will not stop gambling or drug and alcohol abuse - it is income management on steroids, which has failed as an approach in the Northern Territory," Greens senator Rachel Siewert said.
