Greens compare Turnbull to Trump

Malcolm Turnbull has been accused of adopting an agenda similar to US Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump.

Greens MP Adam Bandt asked the prime minister on Wednesday whether his support for the coal industry, tougher border security and a watering down of anti-hate speech laws were due to his belief in a "Trump-style agenda" or if he was content in being "the poor man's Tony Abbott".

The question was dismissed by Speaker Tony Smith, but Mr Turnbull said in answer to a follow-up question his approach was to encourage mutual respect and ensure the integrity of Australia's borders.
