Electric vehicle recalled due to charging safety issues
An electric vehicle is being recalled after it was found its charging cable could cause "serious injury or death".
The Great Wall Motor Company's ORA 2023 vehicle model is being recalled due to a "programming issue" with the charging.
"If the operator removes the charging cable without cancelling the charge, an electrical arc between the charging plug and the vehicle may occur," the government's vehicle recall notice said.

"If an electrical arc comes into contact with the operator or bystanders it will increase the risk of serious injury or death."
The company has sold 1659 cars and the defect impacts all variants of the model.
Owners of the car are encouraged to make an appointment with a GWM dealer who can update the vehicle's software for free.
Customers should receive a letter alerting them to the defect.
