Grandmother, 92, thrilled to feature in granddaughter's wedding as flower girl

A 92-year-old Melbourne woman has proven age is no bar to being a flower girl after serving the important duty at her granddaughter’s wedding.

Grandmother Alison Walter said she had no choice but to accept the honour after being approached by 27-year-old granddaughter Kerrin Walton to take part in the big day at Nathania Springs Receptions in Monbulk on Friday.

"Kerrin came with flowers and a lovely card that said would I give her the honour of being her flower girl," Mrs Walter said.

"How could I refuse?"

But Mrs Walter was apparently so surprised by the offer, she didn’t believe it at first.

"She didn’t believe me when I first asked her," Mrs Walton said.

"But she was the best flower girl in the world.

"She was beautiful, inside and out.

"I wouldn't want any other girl to walk me on my way to my husband.

"I needed something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue.

"And Nanna was my something old."

Mrs Walter said that despite some initial jitters, she very quickly took to her flower-flinging duties.

The grandmother is no stranger to weddings, having previously served as mother-of-the-bride six times, as well as a bridesmaid, matron of honour and bride herself.

Mrs Walter has seven children of her own, 12 grandchildren and three grandchildren.
