Bring on carbon vote, Milne tells govt

Greens leader Christine Milne has challenged the Abbott government to bring on a vote on the carbon tax, after the coalition said it was sick of stalling in the Senate.

The coalition says it's had enough of Labor and Greens delays in the upper house, and will move a motion calling for a vote on its laws to abolish the carbon and mining taxes.

Senator Milne described the move as a "silly political stunt" ahead of the West Australian Senate election.

However, she welcomed a vote on the carbon tax, saying: "The Greens are ready to vote now."

"I challenge the government - bring the carbon price legislation back on because you will find that the Senate is going to uphold carbon pricing," she told ABC Radio.

The government will move a motion on Wednesday calling for a vote by Thursday night, when the Senate is due to rise for the week.

The carbon tax repeal legislation has been bogged down in the upper house since December, frustrating the government's efforts to axe the impost.

Debate on the mining tax has stalled as well, appearing for the first time before the Senate on Tuesday.
