Govt seeks advice on plebiscite timing
AAP
Special Minister of State Scott Ryan will meet with the Australian Electoral Commission this week to try and set down a timetable for a plebiscite into marriage equality.
Senator Ryan will seek the commissioner's advice mid-week, at a time when Senate votes from the July 2 federal election will be coming to a conclusion and the lower house seat of Herbert should be finalised.
"After hearing from the commissioner I will take that advice forward to the prime minister and cabinet, but as I understand it is still possible to hold it this calendar year," Senator Ryan told Sky News on Sunday.
