Govt moves closer to abuse redress scheme

A task force set up to look at redress stemming from the child abuse royal commission will report to the federal government by the end of the year.

The internal government task force, established in May and involving six officials, is working with the states, victim support groups, the Law Council, indigenous leaders and insurers on the best way to provide a redress scheme - which could take the form of a national program or state-by-state responses.

"Nothing has been ruled in or out already and the task force is providing a comprehensive suite of advice," Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet deputy secretary Lin Hatfield-Dodds told a Senate committee on Monday.
